E-Prescribing Setup

General Settings

This screen offers configuration options for the E-Rx module of BestRx. The top portion of the General Settings screen lists login and mailbox information. It is provided by SureScripts and must be entered by one of our technicians into the system. NOTE: After the setup information has been processed and the account information has been entered, it may take 48-72 hours for the account to propagate through the ERx network and become visible. At that point, prescribers still have to update their directories to reflect any additions or changes to the pharmacy directory.

  • Username / E-Prescribing ID: This field is used to enter the SureScripts ID. This number is the same as your NCPDP number.

  • Mailbox ID: This field is used to enter a unique Mailbox ID provided by SureScripts.

  • Password: This field is used to enter your SureScripts Mailbox password.

  • Primary ID: Indicate whether the above information is the primary ID used for electronic prescriptions.

  • Expiration Date: This field displays the date your SureScripts ID is set to expire.

  • Add Another ID button: This button allows for the addition of another ID into the system; this is most commonly used in the event a pharmacy is changing their numbers and registering for a new SureScripts account under new credentials.

The second section of the General Settings offers custom configuration options.

  • Archive Received Messages older than: The pharmacy has the option to archive received messages older than 15, 30, 45, 60, 90, 120, 180, 270, 365 days, or do not archive messages at all. By Law, you are required to keep any received and sent message for at least 15 days.

  • Delete Sent Messages older than: The pharmacy has the option to delete sent messages older than 15, 30, 45, 60, 90, 120, 180, 270, 365 days, or do not delete messages at all. By Law, you are required to keep any received and sent message for at least 15 days.

  • After deleting a message

    • Display the previous message will display the previous message in line.

    • Display the next message will display the next message in line.

    • Display the message list will take you back to the main mailbox list.

  • Place SIG Directions In

    • Auto-placement will choose whether the Sig should be placed in the code line or the directions box according to information sent in the message.

    • Sig Code Line will place the Sig in the code line

    • Sig Directions Box will place the directions in the freehand Sig direction box.

  • E-Rx Print Format:

    • Small format will fit up to four (4) messages per printed page.

    • Large format will print one prescription per page.

  • Rxs to Print on each Page: Choose whether you'd like to print 1, 2 or 4 ERx per page. This option is only available after choosing "Small" as the print format.

  • E-Rx Print Form: Choose whether to print a Normal or Condensed ERx printout. Condensed removes some duplicate and nonessential fields to prevent text from overflowing or overlapping. Census messages (related to LTC messages) always print in Normal format, regardless of this setting.

  • Print Big ERxs Format: Indicate whether you’d like to print ERxs that have information spillover vertically or horizontally.

  • Print Barcode: Indicate if you'd like to print an identifying barcode on ERx printouts.

  • Set Message Time As

    • Time in message converted to local time takes the time the message was sent and converts it to the appropriate time zone for the pharmacy.

    • Time message received by pharmacy displays the actual time the message was received by the pharmacy.

  • Days to display when viewing messages: Indicate how many days you'd like to display by default in the E-Rx mailbox. Displaying less messages at a time will allow the system to run faster.

  • Auto Populate Drug Search: This option will auto populate the drug search box to display results that match that of the message.

  • Set VERIFY Messages as "Read": Indicate if you'd like to automatically mark Verify messages as read. These messages act simply as notifications that the messages sent/received have been processed successfully.

  • Print NDC for new Rxs: Indicate if you'd like to print the NDC number for new prescriptions when printing E-Rx messages.

  • Fill E-Prescriptions Multiple Times: Indicate whether to allow electronic prescriptions to be filled more than once. Can be set to prevent it, or prompt to allow.

  • Primary Patient Phone maps to: Select whether the patient’s cell phone or home phone number should be considered their primary phone number when attempting to use the Messsaging Interface add-on to let them know an ERx has reached the pharmacy.

Prescriber Directory

By default the prescriber directory that loads into the system is based on the pharmacy's location. If at any point the pharmacy would like to be able to search the director for out-of-state prescribers, those states can be added and removed with the Prescriber Directory tab. Simply click the state from the left column and click "Add -->" to add it to your directory, or if you would like to remove a state you no longer wish to work with simply click it from the right column and click the "<-- Remove" button.

Choose the options you desire and click the "Save" button to save the information or click the "Save & Exit" button to save the information and go to the previous screen.

Print Option Configuration

There are a few options for how ERxs print out. Listed below are some example outputs with the following configuration:

ERx Print Format: Small - Most Rxs will fit on 1/4 of a page

Rxs to Print on each Page: 4

E-Rx Print Form: Normal

Print Big ERxs Format: Vertical

ERx Print Format: Small - Most Rxs will fit on 1/4 of a page

Rxs to Print on each Page: 4

E-Rx Print Form: Normal

Print Big ERxs Format: Vertical

This is when printing 4 ERxs with no spillover (no “long” ERxs).

In this case, we have an ERx that was too long to fit with the other 3, and has been given it’s own second page where it has a full half of the page to display text.

In this example, two of the ERxs were considered long, and so we have two pages: one containing two small ERxs, and one containing two long ERxs.

This is simply a long ERx printed out. It doesn’t get a whole page to itself because of the settings selected above (small form factor and 4 to a page) which the system will do its best to match.

Real-Time Prescription Benefit Check

Through our integration with Surescripts, pharmacies can access the Real-Time Prescription Benefit Check program for a monthly fee. It is designed to increase medication adherence by optimizing patient’s out-of-pocket costs. The program runs behind the scenes in the BestRx software to provide real-time, patient-specific benefit information for participating payors. This enables pharmacies to quickly verify prescription costs and identify lower-cost alternatives in real time, without incurring a switch fee.

Settings for this feature are accessed through the Real-Time Benefit button at the top of the E-Prescribing setup screen. If this button is greyed out, it means your pharmacy is not activated for the feature. Please reach out to your BestRx sales representative if you are interested in the feature.

From this screen, you can choose whether the feature is Disabled, runs on an Automatic basis, or only On-Demand when pressing the Benefit Check button on the Rx Processing screen.
