The Master Drug File

The Master Drug File contains a complete list of medications available within the OBRA database. Not all drugs listed are automatically included in your system, which helps BestRx maintain performance by only using drugs you regularly dispense. When an additional drug is needed, the Master Drug File provides a central location to search for and add it to your system.

This feature requires current Medi-Span updates, as all drug information is sourced directly from those files.

To search the Master Drug File, click on File 9. Search Master Drug File.

Drug Name / NDC: Search by full or partial drug name or NDC
Control Class: All Drugs, Non-Controlled, All Controlled (C1–C5)
Status: Active (default), Obsolete, or Active & Obsolete

Searching and Adding Drugs

To search for a drug, enter the drug name or NDC (full or partial). Matching results will display on screen. Entries that are not greyed out indicate drugs that have not yet been added to your system, while greyed entries are already on file. Select the desired records and click Add to Your Drug File. A confirmation prompt will appear once the drugs have been successfully added. When finished, click Exit to return to normal workflow and begin using the newly added drugs for prescription processing.

Exporting Search Results

To export the results, click Export Data or press Enter when the option is highlighted, then select Export to generate the file. Exporting to Excel requires a full version of Microsoft Excel; starter or third-party versions are not supported. If Excel is unavailable, export the data as a CSV file for compatibility with most spreadsheet programs. To clear all displayed results, click Cancel or press Enter when it is highlighted.
