Medication Guide
A Medication Guide (Med Guide) is an FDA-approved patient information document that accompanies specific medications and provides important safety information, warnings, side effects, and usage instructions. BestRx retrieves these guides through Medi-Span medication guide files and allows pharmacies to print them during prescription processing.
Medication Guide Printing in BestRx
This guide explains how to configure, print, and reprint Medication Guides in BestRx, including where to manage print behavior and how to manually print a guide from a prescription or drug record.
Pharmacy Print Settings
Medication Guide printing behavior is controlled in File Pharmacy Setup Printing. From this screen, you can define when and how Medication Guides (and Drug Education) are printed during prescription workflows.
Print / Prompt for Drug Ed & Med Guide During: Label Print, Verify Data Entry (PV1), Verify Before Fill, or Verify Before Dispense.
Print / Prompt for Medication Guide: Don't Print, Print for All Rxs, Print for New Rxs, Prompt for All Rxs, or Prompt for New Rxs.
Important: Restart BestRx when applying the desired changes.
These settings determine whether the guide prints automatically, prompts the user, or is suppressed entirely. Adjusting these options is the most common first step when a pharmacy expects Medication Guides to print with labels but they do not.
Rx Processing – Medication Guide Printing
Once your print settings are configured, you will have the ability to print the Medication Guide based on your printing setup.
For example, setting Medication Guide to print during Label Print with Prompt for All Rxs will prompt the user each time a label is generated.
If you do not want it to prompt, you can set it to automatically print for new or all Rxs when selecting Save & Print Label. This allows pharmacies to balance workflow efficiency with patient counseling requirements based on their preferences.
Rx Processing – Drug Education Med Guide Printing
If you want to manually print or reprint a Medication Guide, you can open the Rx # and select Drug Education, then select Medication Guide, hover over the Medication Guide, and select Print.
This same screen can also be accessed by selecting Drug (F4), then Drug Education, and selecting Medication Guide to print from there as well.
Note: If the Medication Guide does not appear in this section for the drug, you may need to run a Medi-Span update in order to load the information from Medi-Span. Once the update completes, return to the Medication Guide section and verify that the guide is now available.
