Performing a Transaction

Here, we will go over the parts of a transaction step by step.

Scan in the Items

Items can be scanned in using the Item SKU field at the top. If the item isn’t in your POS item database, the system will ask if you want to add the item under the scanned SKU.

This is also where you can search for prescriptions by patient to pull up any that are ready to be dispensed. The shortcut buttons on the right can be configured to act as quick links to items. They can be set up to ask for a dollar amount for the item, or to add to the quantity in the transaction every time the button is pressed.

Clicking on the Qty for an item will let you adjust how many of the item are being rung up. In this way you can also adjust the Unit Price, the Tax, and a percent or flat-rate Discount for the item.

The transaction can also be put on hold or resumed using the Hold and Resume buttons at the bottom.

Select Tender Type

Clicking Tender will open the Tender Type selection window. These tender types are discussed more in this article.

There are also shortcuts near the bottom of the register screen allowing you select commonly handed amounts, as well as three shortcuts that will show the three most likely cash amounts to be taken for the transaction. Exact Cash will process the transaction assuming that the customer handed over the exact dollar amount needed.

Finishing the Payment

Once the payment is complete, a window with the receipt and transaction information will appear, and depending on your settings, the receipt will print and the drawer will kick open. You can email the receipt to the patient with the Email Sales Receipt button.

If you need to print the receipt again, you can use the Reprint Receipt button at the bottom. If the drawer needs to be reopened, a No Sale function can be used to open it back up.

Closing out the Register

To close out the register batch for the day, press F11 or click Other at the bottom right. If you don’t see the Other button, click the toggle [1|2] switch next to No Sale.

In the Other menu, select Closeout Register. You will be asked to confirm the closeout. Once you do, the batch will be closed, and you’ll be asked if you want to settle the current credit card batch as well. Once this is done, you’ll be able to print out an X Report, Z Report, or Card/Check Details Report from the Closeout Register screen.

Clicking OK on this screen will close the BestPOS program.
